I decided that the pieces for this design should not be reliant on the body of the past human, but rather on the mushroom that is peacefully helping the earth just as the deceased person's body helped the cycle of life. Jae Rhim Lee wanted to portray death in a way that would bring peace to those who are thinking about their future environmental impact, but death is typically seen as terrifying so he used complex illustrations and soft colors to make it appear less frightening.
Originally created by Jae Rhim Lee, the mushroom burial suit is a more eco-friendly and impactful way to deal with death and life on earth. Jae Rhim Lee talked about the creation of her suit in her Ted Talk, which inspired a conceptual promotional poster. Once the body has been laid to rest in this suit, it is peacefully decomposed without causing any danger to the earth.
