As part of the design, I illustrated and designed a card box that would fit the backs of the cards. Vibrant colors and a risograph printer convey grit and imperfection, yet remain alive and vibrant. There is joy in remembering that nothing is perfect. The box was designed to complement the card design. The designs were etched using a laser cutter into the bright pink acrylic.
Tarot card ideology inspired the design of these playing cards. My goal in starting this project was to stay away from well-known figures and find something similar to them. A skeleton characteristic gradually emerged and led to teaching for those of us living on this planet about the inevitable death of all living things.
Grit and imperfection, but alive and vibrant. There is joy in knowing nothing is perfect.
